FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION ON THE ADMISSION TO LL.B (HONS) IN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PROGRAMME AT RGSOIPL, IITKGP
1. IS THE LL.B PROGRAMME A PART TIME OR FULL TIME PROGRAMME ?
The LL.B Programme offered by RGSOIPL is a full time residential programme approved by the Bar Council of India leading to LL.B (Hons.) in Intellectual PropertyLaw which enables the graduates to practice in India. The course has the full compliment of the Bar Council mandated curriculum with special focus on IP subjects. I.E. Criminal Law, Civil Laws, Administrative Law, International Law, Civil Procedure Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Family Law etc. Please see the curriculum under the programmes section of the school site – www.rgsoipl.iitkgp.ernet.in
2. WILL THE SCHOOL ASSURE PLACEMENTS TO THE GRADUATES OF THE PROGRAMME ?
The placement to all Post Graduate Programmes is facilitated by the Placement Cell of the School coordinated by Faculty. The recruiters are from private sector companies, Law firms and Individual Lawyers. The package is of industry and law firm standards that vary year to year and also based on the size of the law firm or company.
3. ARE CANDIDATES COMPLETING THEIR EXAMS IN MAY-JUNE 2010 ELIGIBLE TO APPLY AND JOIN ?
They are eligible as they are in the 'results awaited category'. They would need to provide all marksheet upto the last semester and a Provisional Certificate from the college in the event of selections. If joining the LL.B 2010 batch they will need to submit degree certificate by the end of semester I otherwise their registration will be canceled.
4. IS THERE ANY AGE LIMIT FOR THE CANDIDATE ?
There is generally no age limit
5. WHAT IS THE SYLLABUS FOR ENTERANCE AND ARE THERE ANY COACHING CLASSES OR PRESCRIBED MATERIALS ?
The syllabus for the entrance exam:
a. Legal Aptitude
b. Logic & Reasoning
c. Language Skills
d. Essay on a contemporary topic
However any addition or change in the pattern is possible which will be announced in January 2010 in the website. There is no coaching classes conducted by IIT
and there are no specific books prescribed for the same.
6.WHERE IS THE VENUE FOR THE ENTERANCE TESTS?
The entrance tests are scheduled to be held at Kolkata, Delh, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. However the School reserves the right to drop any centre of the test based on administrative reasons.
7. ARE THERE SOME DEGREES EQUIVALENT TO B.TECH –E.G. B.PHARM WHIS IS FOUR YEARS LIKE B.TECH ? IN SUCH CASE ARE THEY ELIGIBLE ?
The eligibility criteria is not based on the equivalence of no of years of a degree compared to B.Tech degree but is based on the specified degrees of B.Tech or B.E. by the IIT senate and approved by Bar Council of India. Kindly see the eligibility criteria clearly mentioned in the admission notification.
8. WHAT IS THE FEE STRUCTURE TO THE COURSE ?

9. WHAT ARE THE STEPS INVOLVED IN SUBMITTING THE APPLICATION ?
Step 1. Check whether you are eligible under the eligibility section of the admission notification
Step 2. Prepare the required Demand Draft as in the instructions.
Step 3. Fill up the online application as per instructions.
Step 4. Take a print out of the online application copy
Step 5. Enclose the DD along with the application
Step 6. Courier it by Speed Post to the Dean, RGSOIPL with the address given in the instruction
10. WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS AN ERROR IN SUBMISSION OF ONLINE APPLICATION OR I AM NOT SURE IT HAS BEEN SUBMITTED?
