
The Army Institute of Law or AIL, as it is popularly known, was established in 1999 primarily to provide quality legal education to the wards of the Army personnel. It is affiliated to the Punjabi University Patiala and the Bar Council of India approves this affiliation. AIL concentrates not only in providing class room teaching but it also encourages students to participate in the extra-curricular and co-curricular activities in the campus.The teaching method of AIL aims at maximizing the participation of students. Interactive sessions are regarded integral part of the teaching-learning exercise at AIL. Students are also involved in the seminars, moot courts and various projects and in senior semesters they carry around 50% weight age of the practical marks.
Army Institute of Law is a residential College and all enrolled students are expected to reside in the hostel of the institute. However students of AIL are not bound to join the Army after the completion of their course.

AIL Mohali has an impressive architectural structure in the vicinity of Punjab and Haryana High Court. Eligibility
Eligibility criteria in brief is given below.
- Candidate should have passed or appeared in 10+2 exam with 45% Marks at the time of applying for admission to AIL.
- Candidate should not have completed the age of 21 years
- Category certificate is required to be submitted while applying for admission to AIL

Admission to the BA LL.B 5 years course at AIL is made on the basis of the rank obtained in the Common Entrance Test (CET Law), Punjab
