Deccan Education Society is graced by the vision and glory of the founding fathers: Father of Indian Unrest and an astute lawyer Lokmanya Shri. Bal Gangadhar Tilak ,the doyen of Marathi literature, Shri. Vishnushastri Chiplunkar and the great social reformers Shri. Gopal Ganesh Agarkar and Shri. Mahadev Ballal Namjoshi. These young visionaries with nerves of steel and an unwavering commitment towards the Indian masses, came together to give the people of India an educational Institute and the dream of a better future.

The first step towards igniting the flame of knowledge and awakening the populace, was laying the foundation of the revolution called Deccan Education Society on the 24th October, 1884, which was also the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashami or Dashehra. Within less than three months, the Ferguson College was started on the 2nd of January, 1885.

Admired by Mahatma Gandhi in 1935 in the glorious words, "Who can fail to be enthused over the noble record of service rendered by the D.E.Society to the cause of education?", the DES has a proud list of past teachers in the form of Lokmanya Tilak, Gopal Ganesh Agarkar, Gopal Krishna Gokhle, Maharshi Dhonde Keshav Karve-Bharat Ratna, Prof. V.S. Apte, and Prof. Wrangler.

The seed sown by the Fore Fathers has now metamorphasized into the Tree of Wisdom with branches spreading into every sphere of education. In pace with the demands of the modern day society, DES has established Institutions catering to every stage of education- from pre-primary to Post-graduate level.

DES Pune 2012: Courses Offered

The University of Pune, awards the degree of Bachelor of Socio Legal Sciences (B.S.L.) after the completion of the Five year of the B.S.L LL.B. Programme.
D.E.S Law college offers a bachelors degree Law programme after the basic graduation . The Graduation degree holder may be of any equivalent faculty as per the Pune University rules.

DES Pune 2012: Eligibility for Five years LL.B Course

For admission to the B.S.L LL.B (5 Year Law Course) the eligibility reguired is Class XIIth or an equivalent with minimum 40% marks for candidates belonging to S.C / S.T. and 45% marks for others.

DES Pune 2012: Eligibility for Three years LL.B Course

To be eligible for admission for LL.B. a candidate must be a graduate of any faculty of any University whose degree is recognized to be equivalent to the corresponding degree of Pune University. The candidate should have secured a minimum 40% marks for candidates belonging to S.C. / S.T. and 45% marks for others.

Apart from a well ventilated three-storied college building, we have 15 spacious class rooms, a Conference Hall, a well equipped Computer Lab with online legal resources and search engines, a Library with the latest edition of curriculum law books and journals as well as other reference materials and an administrative office as a part of our campus.
To facilitate an all round development of our students and to channelize the youthful energies, the college provides awell equipped gymnasium and an expansive open ground for all the outdoor athletic sports activities.

Admission procedure:

The candidates are required to fill an application form, mentioning their educational qualifications. The admission is based on the merit and interview results. For admission to the 5 Year Law Course the candidates must have secured at least 45% marks in their 10+2 exams or its equivalent exams. For the candidates belonging to S.C / S.T. the percentage requirement is reduced to 40% marks in the above mentioned exams.

The placements of the various students of this college are under a special cell organized by the college. It takes care of the better career aspects of the students. Major companies are Wipro, HCL, JISL, Polaris, Essar, Bharat Petroleum, Reliance Indistries LTd., LG, ENLINC Ltd., Sahara India, VVF Ltd, and more to enlist.
