Allahabad University, the fourth oldest university of India, is an educational institution of high pedestal. The University has the distinction of having on its rolls a host of distinguished politicians and statesmen including one President and two Vice-Presidents of the country, two former Prime Ministers, several Union and State ministers, at least four Chief Justices of the Supreme Court, as well as a large number of senior bureaucrats.

The Department of Law of the University of Calcutta is situated at the Hazra campus of the university. It was established in January 1909 as the "University College of Law" .

The Law School under the Banaras Hindu University is one of the premier law schools in the country. It was founded by the great Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya in 1915 who was a prominent Indian freedom fighter. The Law School is one of the 14 important institutes that are running under the management of Banaras Hindu University.

Faculty of Law has been a pioneer legal institutions of India. It was established in 1921 with Mr. Jag Mohan Nath Chak as the first Dean. The real architect was Prof. R.U. Singh who with great zeal and enthusiasm organized teaching and research in the faculty in a systematic way. He held the office of the Dean, Faculty of Law till 1956.

The Faculty of Law was established in 1924 and the then Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi,Dr.Hari Singh Gaur was its first Dean.The Faculty was initially housed in the Prince's Pavilion in the Old Viceregal Lodge Grounds.It was only in 1963 that the faculty moved to its present location at the Chhatra Marg,University of Delhi, Delhi

The University Law College, Bangalore University, located in the garden city of Bangalore (also called Bengaluru), is a pioneer legal-education institution in the state of Karnataka. The college, popularly known as ULC - Bangalore, is widely recognized as one of the country’s best government run law schools.

Established in the year 1996, Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University was inaugurated by the then President of India Dr KR Narayanan. The University commenced functioning from 3rd October, 1997.
