
Government Law College (GLC), Mumbai is one of the premier law colleges of India. Established in 1855, Government Law College Mumbai is perhaps the oldest Law College in India. The college boasts some of the famous personalities such as Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Chief Justice M. C. Chagla (the first Indian Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court), Sir Motilal Setalvad (the first Attorney General of Independent India) etc. among its alumni.
Government Law College, Mumbai has had an equally illustrious faculty like Chief Justice M. C. Chagla, Badruddin Tyebji, G. S. Rao, V. F. Taraporwala, N. H. C. Coyajee, B. G. Gokhale, S. G. Patwardhan, N. A. Palkhivala, Tehemtan Daruwala etc. among its ranks.
Courses :
B.L.S., LL.B
This is a five-year Integrated Law Course leading to a B.L.S., LL.B. Degree. The first and the second year of this course i.e. first four semesters constitute a 'Pre - Law' course. The students pursing this course are entitled to B.L.S. (Bachelor of Legal Science) Degree on successful completion of the third year (6th semester) and on successful completion of five years (10th semester) the LL.B. Degree is awarded.
LL.B. Degree
This is a three-year Law Course leading to the LL.B. Degree. The course structure is divided into six semesters. Students who do not wish to practise as Advocates, are eligible for the LL.B. (General) Degree, at the successful completion of the second year (4th semester). On successful completion of three years (6th semester) the LL.B. Degree is awarded.
L.L.M
The LL. M. Degree enables students to develop their interests in many of the major areas of law to which they have been introduced in the LL. B. and also provides opportunities for the study of important specialized areas. The duration of course is two years. A student is permitted to take any two groups out of the eleven groups each paper in the group shall carry 100 marks.
Postgraduate Diploma Course in Securities Law
Recognizing the growing importance of India's capital markets and in keeping with its pioneering role in Indian legal education, GLC Mumbai offers a one year Postgraduate Diploma Course in Securities Law.
How To Get Into Government Law College, Mumbai?
Admission process for the first year of the Five Year Law Course will commence immediately after the declaration of the
H.S.C. results and in the case of the Three Year Law Course, after the declaration of graduation results.

There is 50% Reservation for Reserved Categories from Maharashtra State as per the Government Resolution(G.R.).
The prospectus and Admission Forms will be available at the College Office. The Admission Form, duly filled in, should be submitted to the college office within the prescribed time.
Facilities:
- Library : The Government Law College provides students, with extensive facilities to maximize their knowledge in the field of law. The Harilal J. Kania Memorial Library and Reading Room has been a part of this college since the year 1952. The reading room was created from the Harilal . K. Kania Memorial fund which was instituted to honour the memory of Sir Harilal J. Kania, the first Chief Justice and an ex-student of this college.
- Moot Court Association (MCA) : The Moot Court Association (MCA) of Government Law College was inaugurated in February 1955 by the then Hon'ble Education Minister, Mr. Dinkar R. Desai, under the aegis of Principal Mr. K. R. Mehta.
In recognition of Mooting as an imperative co- curricular activity, the members of the Moot Court Association work unstintingly to promote and encourage mooting in Government Law College. In pursuance of this objective, the Moot Court Association singularly co-ordinates all the mooting activities at Government Law College. Students argue on specific legal issues and adaptations of cases previously settled in court. Eminent Advocates, Senior Advocates and Hon'ble Judges of the Bombay High Court judge various Intra College Moots as well as National and International Moot Court Competitions hosted by the MCA.
The MCA conducts various workshops, the Demonstration Moot Court and the Fresher's Moot Court Competition in order to acquaint the students of the first year with the activity of Mooting. It also conducts the Grand Moot Court Competition and several Common Eliminations in order to ensure that students participate at various City, State, National and International Moot Court Competitions. I am presently a first year(2nd semester) B.A.L.L.B student at MSU, Vadodara and i wish to apply for migration/transfer to GLC.I got 60% in my first semester and i expect it to between 60-65% for the second semester .Will i be eligible for a migration/transfer into the 2nd year at GLC?
