Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Gandhinagar was established under Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003 enacted by Gujarat State Legislative; and it was formally inaugurated on 17th July 2004. GNLU is one of the National Law Universities in India which has substantially contributed in uplifting the standards of legal education, research and training in India. From a modest beginning, the University has achieved many worthy milestones in the short span of its existence. The University has been rated as one of the premier law universities in India and is committed to transforming legal education to professional education in the real sense of the term. The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission and the Bar Council of India.

Courses:

LL.B. programme
GNLU is the only national law university in India to offer interdisciplinary legal course in all the three streams. It offers five year integrated degree course leading to the award of following degrees:

  • B.A., LL.B (Hons.)
  • B.Com., LL.B (Hons.)
  • B.Sc., LL.B (Hons.)


LL.M. Programme
The LL.M. programme is devised with a view to producing competent teachers and researchers. The syllabus is based on the UGC’s Model Syllabus on Law 2001. The Course is of two year duration with four semesters.
The system is devised in such as way as to offer number of specializations. The core subjects which all students have to study are:

  • Jurisprudence and Legal Theory
  • Comparative Constitutional Law
  • Law of Obligations
  • Research Methodology and Practicals

Specializations would be offered in the area of Criminology, International Law and Intellectual Property Rights.

Facilities:

GNLU academic blocks and halls of residence are fully equipped with internet facility. Computer laboratory is also equipped with a complete set of database of the journals such as the All India Reporter and Supreme Court Cases online.
The university has a rich library and other facilities for the purpose of overall development of the students. It very well encourages co-curricular activities amongst the students.

Eligibility:

To be eligible to appear for CLAT-2011, a candidate should have passed his/her Higher Secondary School/Intermediate Examination (10+2) or its equivalent examination with not less than 50% marks in aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST/OBC and persons with Disability)*. Age of candidate should not be more than 20 years in case of General/OBC candidates (22 years in case of SC/ST and persons with Disability)* as on 1st July, 2011
