Established in the year 1996, Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University was inaugurated by the then President of India Dr KR Narayanan. The University commenced functioning from 3rd October, 1997. It aims to promote acquisition of legal knowledge in a fast developing and changing society and to continually offer opportunities of upgrading knowledge, training and skills in the context of innovation, research and discovery.
Courses :
The Tamil Nadu Law University provides education in a variety of courses, both at the Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate levels. Besides pursuing strong teaching and academic research initiatives at its campus, the University affiliates state sponsored and private law colleges.
The University has established the School of Excellence in Law primarily to focus on Undergraduate legal education. For ensuring dedicated teaching and research facility at the postgraduate level, the University offers advanced degrees through the postgraduate departments of Law.
It offers advanced degree programs including Business Law, Constitutional Law & Human Rights, Intellectual Property Laws, International Law and Organizations, Environmental Law & Legal Order, Criminal Law & Criminal Justice Administration. It also offers part-time research programme for the faculty members working in the affiliated law colleges, enabling them to get PhD degree in law. The university has established student - industry interface Centre (SIIC) that helps for opening more avenues in the legal sphere for the pass-outs.
Tamil Nadu Law University has developed active collaborations with leading institutions around the world. This enables it to conduct examination in various branches of Law, and award degrees and diplomas recognized by the Government of India, and many other countries around the world.
Facilities :
The university library has a vast collection of books in various sub-disciplines of Law as well as national and international journals. Apart from this, it also houses a number of books on various subjects like information Technology, English, Political Science, Sociology, History, Biographies.
The library also provides internet and photocopy facilities to the students. Publication department of the University publishes quarterly News Letters, Law Journals and Law Books in Tamil. Scholarships are also awarded to meritorious and needy students on the basis of performance of the students in the qualifying examination.
How To Get Into Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University?
For B.A.,B.L. (Hons) Degree Course, “the percentage of marks obtained by the candidates in the Plus Two examinations in aggregate of all the subjects, excluding languages, will be taken into account. The marks obtained by the students in the Plus Two examinations in the first attempt alone may be taken into account and the marks obtained by them in the improvement examinations need not be taken into account”.
