Telangana University is established at Dichpally mandal, Nizamabad district through an enactment of A.P.State Legislature vide No. 28 of 2006 to cater to the academic pursuits of three backward districts viz. Nizamabad and Adilabad in the state of A.P. The Government of Andhra Pradesh handed over 577 acres of land in Suddapally and Nadipally villages of Dichpally mandal to the University. At present the University comprises of Four buildings namely, Administrative Block, Class room Complex, Boys Hostel and Girls Hostel. In addition to these buildings, separate blocks for Commerce and Management, Law and Computers will be constructed in a short period as administrative sanction was accorded by the Government and approved by Executive Council members.
Telangana University is having an avowed goal of bringing quality higher education to the doorstep of backward Telangana region with special emphasis on the jurisdiction districts of Nizamabad and Adilabad. The Telangana University strives to promoting the excellence in higher education and enlightening the personalities of the students in order to mould them into future leaders in their chosen fields to ensure the just and humane society. The cherished ideals of the Telangana University are to impart quality education by showing unequivocal commitment at all levels and to ignite the minds of the young students to achieve excellence in their subjects and for the service of the nation. And work for the promotion of the humanity through all possible creative and positive contributions.
Steps are being taken to develop spacious play ground opposite to classroom complex and girls hostel. Massive plantation is going on to make the Telangana University into a Green-Campus. The plantation works were also taken up under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. The campus will soon have avenue trees, Nursery beds and landscape designing.
Academic Programmes
During the academic year 2006-07 the University started with 6 programmes with an intake of 28 in each programme and added 7 more programmes in 2007-08 and 5 more courses were launched in 2008-09 academic year thus raising the total number of courses offered at the Telangana University to 18 with an intake capacity to 28 in all the PG Programmes except MBA, MCA & LLB which has an intake of 30 each.
Centre for Distance Education
It is proposed to introduce various educational programmes through Distance mode so as to provide education to the employees and rural youth and housewives, who could not continue their regular studies for various reasons. This will generate additional resources besides spreading education among the deprived sections.
Admissions
The Telangana University is having a transparent and reservation rule-based admission procedure. All the admissions will be done as per the performance of the candidates in the TUCET/OU Common Entrance Test. The University strictly follows the rule of reservation as per the government norms and ensures strict adherence to the reservations into various categories.
Admissions into various courses of study shall be made on the basis of TUCET/OU Common Entrance Test (Conducted by the Osmania University, Hyderabad) rank and eligibility criteria subject to the rule of reservation. In every course of study 85% of the available seats are reserved in favour of the local candidates from the districts of Nizamabad and Adilabad. The reservation however, does not apply to any course of study in which the total number of available seats does not exceed three. While determining the number of seats reserved in favour of local candidates, any fraction of a seat is counted in favour of local candidates provided there is at least one unreserved seat for which locals and non-locals compete.
